I’ve had this Cohiba kicking around my humidor for years not knowing if I would ever be able to do anything with it, or for that matter knowing wether or not it is genuine. I decided to get rid of the old binder altogether and (sacrilegiously) use Dominican binder with Havana 2000 wrapper. When I get around to smoking it I should have some idea of it’s veracity.

The imperfecto burn test.

I’m thinking I mistook a couple Ligero leafs for a seco and stuck them on that one side. It tasted great but the burn was uneven the whole way down. Also, when I stood up I was well and thoroughly over-nicotined. I am accustomed to strong tobacco but this was a bit too much, haha.

This is a test blend, so no attempt at beauty. PdO, CV black, and Criollo 97 ligeros. CV Corojo and T-13 viso. Dominican binder and wrapper. This one is destined for a production run. Surprisingly mild in flavor, but well rounded and tasty. Slight nutmeg and caramel flavors, creamy and perfectly balanced. This is one you will smoke down to the nub.

I tried using my Nic rosado wrapper with today’s perfecto. I’m going with perfecto with this one because it is the least banana shaped one yet.
The wrapper is very thin so not surprisingly I tore it a bit at the foot which is why I clipped it’s toenails, figuratively speaking, a little less proud than normal. Went with a toro for the other half wrapper because it is so much easier to roll.

As you are discovering, each wrapper has its own ideal case for wrapping easily. Too wet, and they tear. Too dry, and they tear. But that happy point in between differs from one variety (and even batch of a single variety) to the next. I've been rolling for a decade, and still get it wrong. The benefit of rolling for minimum wage in a third world factory is that you work with the same leaf for thousands of consecutive cigars, before you switch to something different.

Interesting... The wrapper did seem especially weak as I didn't even feel it tear... I will take my time casing the next joint (not that kind of joint, I just like to keep my phrases turned) to where the elasticity is best.
