It looks as though it came from a cigar factory. ePray...ain't that the truth. I've found that if ya bid high you can sometimes avoid the snipers. It's pretty disappointing when you loose an auction in the last 2seconds.

Yeah, it took 3 seconds or so but, I was able to find immunity to that. I've been very fortunate in my winning.

I don't know Marc. It's kinda like the convenience store worker asks, do you want a bag?, and you say, no, I already got one at home. Or at my work, kicking people out of a radiation area, there's always one guy who has to tell me we can sterilize him cause he's already had kids, and dear God, the poor poor fellas and ladies who work at the fastener supply store, with the wing-nut jokes. Please, Marc, will it ever end?

I rolled these a week ago. Since I would set them and forget them in the humidor, I added descriptions to bands. Each cigar is made entirely of the leaf and stalk level indicated.

It's worth noting for those members who don't grow their own tobacco, both the Piloto Cubano PR lug and upper leaf were kilned simultaneously (the same temperature, humidity and duration). The dark maduro of the upper leaf is a feature of the leaf itself, and not the result of how it has been handled--despite the pronouncements of cigar "experts" on other forums and in magazines.

I've now smoked the Corojo 99 puro, and once again noted that the leaf provides a dry, slightly harsh, fairly one-dimensional taste and aroma (pretty much like the Cuban stuff). It really needs to be blended. I also had the vague impression that it would improve, if allowed to sit for another year or so. And this after hanging for 6 months, followed by 6 weeks of kilning. But still a productive, substantial and rich cigar leaf.

Below, I've tried to capture the delectable, glossy, leathery dark maduro character of my Piloto Cubano PR upper leaf. It burns to a very white ash. The nicotine level is not as high as WLT Piloto Cubano viso, but a smidgen higher than the WLT seco. I taste a slight sweetness. Its flavor and aroma are more complex than that of the Corojo 99, though not as intense. This puro of Piloto Cubano PR upper leaf is a quite respectable and delicious cigar. Its character is easily distinguishable from that of Vuelta Abajo, Machu Picchu Havana, Criollo, Corojo 99 and Coroja. Unlike the Corojo 99, this leaf seems fully aged and ready for the big time.

I'm glad that I decided to add the Piloto Cubano PR to my 2018 grow.

Nice, I have it in seeds and Silver River was in the "game" for a while, but I had to hold on to the limit for 10 brands. (Maybe next year)

WLT stuff on the inside, Larry's Silver River on the outside. Not sure I've ever wrapped with a Burley before, but seems to taste fine.

The wrappers on these 5x52 robustos are Black Mammoth and "Burle Red Tips" from @BigBonner. The binder is NHS (Nica Habano seco); the fillers are tons of different ligeros, e.g. lots of the new CV stuff plus pilotos, plus "weird exotics," e.g. Flojo viso, perique, and other.

The Burley Red Tips-wrapped one ended up pretty excellent. The blend was approx 1.5 NHS binder, 1 CV Dom seco, 1 PC lig, 1 CV C98 lig, 1 other Dom ligero of some variety. No idea whether any of the exotics got into that one. Random leaf-grabbing going on. Haven't smoked the Black Mammoth yet.

Very nice sticks, and great pictures! I haven't tried BigBonner's Burley Red Tips in a cigar, but they are superb component for pipe blends. Rich and strong - just how I like it!

Thanks. Yes, this was a legit strong wrapper but not overbearing. Typically I'm a little a'feard of those big ol' non-Cuban-leaf leaves, your broadleafs and PAs and stuff about which I know little other than that they're thick and strong. But in this case it went well with the blend and some of that sort of broadleaf sweetness came out in the last half. Very nice. Couldn't put it down even though I'd used up my "free" hour of smoketime. The strength wasn't so much in the flavor but the nic which finally started to give me a little buzz near the end. This was one of those cigars that makes you feel good, for sure.
